Accounts and Access
Your Northeastern Account
Northeastern accounts open the way to university resources, including theStudent Huband Outlookemail accounts. The username and password are set up at the time of account claim.To claim a Northeastern student account, click the unique link in the email (valid for 60 days after receipt) to begin the process. If it has been more than 60 days, contact theIT Service Desk.
Appropriate Use Policy
All Northeastern community members are responsible for following the Northeastern University Appropriate Use of Computer and Network Resources Policy. The policy is availablein PDF format.
Get Secure
All Northeastern community members are responsible for helping keep the university safe fromphishing and other security threats. Northeastern will never ask you to confirm your username and password in an email. Use the Report Message button in your Outlook client to immediately report a suspicious email. If you have any reason to believe that your account has been compromised,email phishcatcher@northeastern.edu to immediately report it to theOffice of Information Security.

2FA and Your Account
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a security measure that protects your online identity and personal information. It’s also required to access many university systems and services. Enroll today.
Connect to the Internet
Northeastern supports all commonly used browsers (Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox) and offers both wired and wireless options for connecting compatible devices to the internet.
NUwave
NUwave is the secure wireless network for laptops, phones, and other personal devices in residence halls, classrooms, and across campus. Use your Northeastern online account username and password to connect.

eduroam
eduroam is a secure roaming wireless network developed for and used by the international research and education community. Students, faculty, and staff canaccess the eduroamnetwork at locations worldwide.

NURes-Device
NURes-Device, an open Wi-Fi network, is available in the residence halls (but not leased properties) to support certain devices that are not compatible with NUwave. Fire devices, smart TVs, and gaming consoles must be registered to connect to NURes-device.

ResNet
ResNet is the high-bandwidth, high-speed wired network available in Northeastern residence halls (but not leased properties). Computers, game consoles, and smart TVs must be registered every year to connect with ResNet.

Tech Service Portal
Go to the Tech Service Portal for complete IT support, including answers to IT questions technology solutions, and tech support- all in one location. The IT Service Desk is also available for direct support, 24/7 by email, chat, and phone.
Canvas
Canvas is the learning management system (LMS) where students can view class materials, submit assignments, and communicate with instructors and classmates. The Canvas mobile app provides quick and easy access for students with iOS or Android devices.
IT Statuspage
Stay informed on the status of the university’s IT systems, and sign up for notifications of scheduled maintenanceperiods or known outages.
Communities at Northeastern
Communities are where Northeastern students can start and participate in groups based on academic interests, residence halls and floors, sports, hobbies, and anything else that brings people together. Apple and Android users can also participate in Communities on their phones.
Student Hub
TheStudent Hubis a desktop and mobile-friendly launchpad to help students navigate and keep track of their Northeastern experience. Features includeaCanvas and,Microsoft365 integration as well aslinks to many university services such as Financial Aid and the dining plan.
Mobile App for University Services
It’s easier than ever to find information about technology support at Northeastern through the Service Now Mobile app. Receive technology support by reporting an IT issue, requesting technology services, managing loaned devices, and more.
The Now Mobile App is free and can be found in the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store for Android users.

Microsoft 365
Northeastern email accounts include downloads of the Office suite on up to five personal devices and the online and mobile versions of the Office apps. Microsoft Teams, the preferred online collaboration hub at Northeastern, allows users to store files and apps, hold conversations and meetings, and make voice calls. Northeastern students can download the Microsoft 365 suite on Windows or Mac at no cost.
Sign in to Microsoft 365:
- Visit portal.office.com.
- Type in your Northeastern online account username
- Use your Northeastern online account password.
Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams is the digital hub that brings conversations, content, and apps together in one place. Download the Microsoft Teams desktop and mobile apps on your devices to enable teamwork from anywhere. To access your account, visit teams.northeastern.edu and log in using your Northeastern username and password.

Adobe Creative Cloud
Northeastern offers the full Adobe Creative Cloud suite for students at no cost. Request access to begin using more than 20 Adobe applications, including:

- Acrobat DC: Create and edit PDFs.
- Illustrator: Make amazing vector art.

Hardware
Choose Your Laptop
Purchasing
When buying a new computer, check with your college or school to determine any specific hardware requirements. The general minimum specifications recommended by the university can be found on the device discounts site.
Borrowing
Loaner laptops can be borrowed by visiting the Tech Bar on the Boston and Oakland campuses. Visit the IT Service Desk to reserve a laptop, retrieve it from a designated locker, and then return it to a locker when finished. Vending machines also provide power adapters, recorders, presentation clickers, and other technology items for loans.
Repair
Computer issues can be reported to the IT Service Desk, and a technician will troubleshoot the issue online. If any issue cannot be resolved online, IT will coordinate a convenient repair option for university-owned devices.
Printing
Print Your Documents
Students have access to general-use printers across all of Northeastern’s regional campuses. The PaperCut software allows students to release printed materials at any of these locations.
Watch TV
Xfinity Stream
Comcast Xfinity Streaming is available to students in Northeastern residence halls on the Boston campus. A smart television is recommended for accessing the streaming service, which offers more than 200 live-streaming TV channels, on-demand shows, and movies.
